From a Taco Night Frustration to a Better Way to Season
Every Spicekick fan knows bits and pieces of our origin story, but it's always fun to revisit where it all started. Back in 2019, Michelle — a trained chef and Registered Dietitian — was just trying to get dinner on the table. Her kids wanted "tacos like at school," so she reached for a store-bought taco seasoning packet to keep things simple.
The meal came together in minutes, but when she flipped the packet over to check the label, she was stopped in her tracks. Added sugars, fillers, and a long list of ingredients she couldn't pronounce were hiding in something meant to be a quick weeknight shortcut. She knew there had to be a cleaner way to make that same convenient meal — and that spark became the idea behind Spicekick (originally launched as Dash Dinners).
Built on Real Ingredients, Real Simplicity
Every Spicekick blend starts with dehydrated versions of real ingredients — think garlic and onion — paired with carefully sourced spices. No mystery fillers, no shortcuts on quality. Just gluten-free, dairy-free blends with no added sugar, designed to help home cooks make wholesome, flavorful meals without extra steps or extra dishes.
Michelle built the earliest blends around recipes from her own cookbooks and TV appearances, then took them straight to the people: a local farmers market. Customers didn't just buy once — they came back week after week, and that loyal following helped Spicekick land its very first retail placement in a neighborhood butcher shop. It's been growing ever since.
How the Meijer Partnership Came Together
The Meijer connection started the way a lot of great retail partnerships do — a chance conversation at a trade show. A Meijer store director tried Spicekick, loved it, and encouraged Michelle to connect with Meijer's Supplier Relationship Management team. That conversation turned into something much bigger: a full rollout of our Chili, Taco, and Sloppy Joe packets across every Meijer location in Indiana.
Michelle has been especially grateful for how supportive the Meijer team has been throughout the process, noting the regular check-ins and genuine investment in helping local vendors grow into more stores over time.
