This fun twist on our homemade hummus recipe uses Spicekick® Taco seasoning mix to create a heathier and lighter take on the usual taco dip, but is every bit as delicious as you'd expect of a great party appetizer. Take this to your next summer gathering or picnic and everyone is sure to be impressed! We love to create a beautiful spread topped with tomato and chives, and serve alongside tortilla chips for your guests to enjoy.
Ingredients
-
1 can (15-oz) chickpeas (or 1 1/2 cups)
-
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
-
1/3 cup tahini paste
-
2 tablespoons Spicekick® Taco seasoning mix
-
Juice of 1 ½ limes
-
4 ice cubes
Directions
Place the chickpeas and baking soda in a medium pot and cover with water. Simmer on low for 1 hour, until the chickpeas smash easily against the side of pan with a fork. During cooking, skim off any skins that float to the top. Drain, while reserving some of the liquid.
Combine chickpeas, taco seasoning mix, tahini, lime juice and ice cubes in a food processor. Process until smooth, scraping down the sides once. If you wish to thin out the hummus a bit, add some of the reserved cooking liquid.
To serve, transfer hummus to shallow bowl or platter and drizzle with extra-virgin olive oil. Garnish with tomatoes and chopped chives, if desired.
